I know it's not race-related because my son and nephew have about 10 all-white t-shirts apiece, which goes against me telling them it was a bad fashion call (I'm not even mentioning the white 'wife-beaters' sleeveless tees, which I despise). But in talking to some people. it was stated that when some guys get out of the 'county' or the prison system their wardrobe consisted of mainly and almost exclusively all white t-shirts and with the younger guys looking up to their older siblings, fathers, uncles and neighbors they took on that so-called trend not realizing or knowing it was in all actuality all they owned. A very sad issue. I hate it. There is no individuality, and it makes me see them as walking zombies or mentally imprisoned.

Wow. I am amazed at the different responses to this question and none of them are what I understand. I grew in one of the poorest ghettos in NJ (Camden) and what I knew was that the sneakers on the wires were of people who took a beat down (lost a fight or got jumped) got their sneakers taken and thrown up there so that they would have to walk home bare foot... Never had anything at all to do with drugs. Whoa. Sometimes in some cases things are attributed to drugs and they really don't have anything to do with them...

Usually to be set apart, unique, and distinctive. Sometimes to combine names, places or things important to the parent. I created my children's names and I did it so that my children wouldn't be the 'norm'. I was young then now I know that names have serious meaning and can impact the personality. But I made what I thought was beautiful and creative for each of my beautifully created children... For their 16th birthdays I will present them with detailed meanings of their names with their strengths in character...
