Teenagers in America (I don’t know about other societies) are shoved into adulthood – they go from being treated like little kids straight to being “grownups” (or at least, all the responsibilities of grown ups, with none of the respect or privileges.) So dating is a way for teens to feel more grown up. Also, the teen years are the median age most people discover their sexuality, so that may have something to do with it. Or it could be that there isn’t anything on TV and they’re just bored.

It may have something to do with centuries of cocky, mean upper class gentry types from other civilizations- nobles in feudal Europe and Japan, scholar-gentry in China, etc. Back then, if you were the king’s best bud, you’d be in the money, but that could change at the drop of a hat. So when the next dynasty came in and appointed their friends, the people who had previously been on the receiving end of the stick were now holding the stick, so they used it to lash out and get back at everyone else. I think that continued to today and now most everyone who is rich acts this way. The other theory is that poor people are more generous because they know what it’s like to be poor and therefore will help out others more willingly.

I think that generally white people like to fit in more. And Jeans seems to be the uniform. I used to have a pair of black jeans and I found out later that whenever I wore them people thought that I was rebelling, or trying to be emo or Goth. I just thought they looked nice.
