Asian countries had more problems with diseases, especially polio, that can cause disfigurement. While in the US there is (and has been for a long time) a polio vaccine, Asian countries were not so lucky. It’s not so much a problem anymore, but I’m assuming you are talking about older Asians (not teens or people in their 20s) with disfigurement.
