I have lived in NM and I have noticed the same thing. I think it’s just something certain people like, and not just minorities. My brother-in-law is into this sort of thing and he is white. Most of the time when I see a car with a vanity plate it’s driven by a white person. Why is that? For attention? Are they being ‘followers’? Sharons comments disturbed me because she said ‘minorites are alway trying to get attention’ and then proceeds to say ‘it is just a sign of stupidity’ which seems to imply that all minorities are stupid. As a minority I am not ‘always trying to get attention’ and am offended by such a generalization. Some would argue that such blatant narrow mindedness is a sign of ignorance.
