Why do so many Hispanics display huge Nike logos on the back window of their cars and trucks? Many also display their last name spelled out in Gothic letters. I have never seen a car driven by an Anglo with a big Nike logo or their name on the back window.

However, around here, I’ve seen countless tricked-out pickup trucks with the Chevrolet logo, Ford logo, Dodge Ram logo, and countless other decals driven by a large variety of people. As for the lettering, it’s not considered gothic, but Old English. It just looks cool. It’s my favorite font. If I ever got any words tattooed on me, it would be that font. I guess it originated with gangs or in prison, but many see it as highly decorative and strikingly eye-catching. It’s also a writing style commonly used by Lowriders; sometimes you’ll see a show trophy in the rear window with something spelled out in that lettering.

The so-called ‘minorities’ (read anyone who is not a WASP) are incredibly diverse. In response to the original question about why hispanics put Old English lettering and decals on their cars: because they think it looks good. Many Latinos like to customize their cars. Its something to do, a way to make your car a little unique and identifiable as yours, etc. Why do white guys raise their trucks really high? Same reason: they think it looks good.

In addition to Hispanics displaying this silliness, it also applies to Arabics, blacks and the white/black wannabes. In my opinion, it is all about attention. Minorities are always trying to get attention in some way or another, whether it be dressing flashy, doing something flashy to their cars, walking flashy or just being plain loud and obnoxious. I think it is just a sign of stupidity. Only the stupid follow, and you can only call these people followers if nothing else.

I think it’s just something certain people like, and not just minorities. My brother-in-law is into this sort of thing and he is white. Most of the time when I see a car with a vanity plate it’s driven by a white person. Why is that? For attention? Are they being ‘followers’? Sharons comments disturbed me because she said ‘minorites are alway trying to get attention’ and then proceeds to say ‘it is just a sign of stupidity’ which seems to imply that all minorities are stupid. As a minority I am not ‘always trying to get attention’ and am offended by such a generalization. Some would argue that such blatant narrow mindedness is a sign of ignorance.

The reason hispanics or blacks do what they do is because they can, we don’t do it for you white folk, we don’t care what you think about it either, but what i really want to stress is why does it have to be ‘stupid’. Putting a sticker on the back window of your car isn’t ‘stupid’. It’s a way of expressing or representing. You white folk do things that we think are ‘stupid’ as well. I have noticed that everything we do that is ‘stupid’ has to do with art.. lowriders, graffiti, style of clothing, etc. When is art such a stupid thing? I hope I never get a chance to move out of here, I don’t know what i would do to some of you ignorant cocky white people. I’m not racist but some of yall are making me want to change.
