Rick29913ParticipantQuestion: Have YOU made a CONSCIOUS decision to ‘act feminine’ if you’re female or ‘act masculine’ if you’re male. Of course not. It’s natural behavior that seems to come from deep inside you. Likewise, I’m convinced that sexual orientation and other behavior are the result of genetic and hormonal factors. You’re right in thinking that it doesn’t make sense for a gay man to ‘act like a woman,’ especially when trying to attract other gay men who are, for the most part, attracted to masculinity. In their youth, many effeminate gay men try to ‘butch it up’ to avoid ridicule and abuse. I myself studied my straight jock brother to copy his tough mannerisms. Masculine and feminine behavior can be learned, yes, but the basic psychological impulse seems to be inborn. In conclusion, I believe that many gay men act like women (and lesbians act like men) because they can’t help it. It’s their nature.
