Okay, as to what I’ve heard about why a black person is called a nigger is that the word itself means ignorant. Young black people today may be continuing on the tradition of the sixties. What I mean by this is, back in the days of the black panthers, they would take the word nigger, and in return call eachother the word so as to make it less painful. (This way it would seem to be less harmful for white people to use.) This is only what I have heard and by no means do I have any proof, it is just an observation.

No, that’s not okay, because to say that is to not understand where the word stems from. The black panthers started calling eachother that in order to stop the pain the word caused them. They thought that maybe if they used it in a non-hurtful manner, the racists would stop using it. So please don’t use that word, even in a playful manner, it is very hurtful. In fact, I hate it when black people use that word for eachother, it is no longer needed to make that statement, now it just causes confusion!

I myself am bi-racial, that is, if anything is what I prefer to be called. The description that most offends me is when I am called black. This may suprise some, but it offends me because I feel that to be called black, is to deny the second, equally represented part of me. I agree when said earlier that you should not have to describe people by the color of skin they are. And about the word colored, it is extreamly offensive because it does remind on of the old (not-so-good) days. Personally I think that people do not need to be called African-American,etc because there is only so much we can do to be politically correct. Just call black people black, white people white…you get the idea.
