Norman108MemberThe increased difficulty some societies – especially some Western socities – have with male affection and male bonding is based on the emphasis we put on limiting and controlling men in these societies. Male affection toward men is (wrongly) seen as homosexual, so homosexuality in these societies is especially vilified. In other words, to make men into good drones and soldiers, it is important to increase their competition, decrease their empathy and limit their love for other men. Generally, the more warlike, controlling and perhaps capitalistic societies (with few notable exceptions) severely limit the affection allowed by men toward other men. Often this is done through legal strictures, but is always done also through ridicule and shaming of men’s affection toward other men.
Male’s self love, also potentially a strong aspect of homosexuality, is also limited for similar reasons. Neither men loving themselves nor men loving other men well supports the structures of these societies – and is in fact intensely threatening to their status quo.
I’ll allow someone else to write about the specifically increased interest in female-to-female-oriented sexuality in these same societies.
