Hmm, my guess is that this depends pretty much on the person in question, it depends on what you’re interested in (shopping, gaming, chatting etc.). Shopping on the net definitely requires a reliable and working postal/distribution network and decent roads/railroads and such to function… So, in countries lacking this kind of necessities, net shopping would be difficult (if not totally impossible). Also, countries lacking these would probably lack decent and reliable internet connections, too. It also depends where you happen to live – in a big city with all those department stores, malls and so on relatively nearby, or in the countryside, far away from all this. In the latter case, net shopping could be a good source to get some of the stuff you want. I use the net to get information and stuff that would otherwise be difficult to obtain offline (rare and/or foreign books, DVD’s, CD’s, mostly). I don’t buy my clothes or shoes online, although that would be totally possible – I like to actually fit the clothes on before buying 🙂 In Finland, a hefty slice (or possibly even the majority) of home-buying and car-shopping happens these days online. Online auctions seem to be a big hit in Finland, too. So, it would be either rare/foreign small-ish items, or big stuff like cars and houses changing ownership on the net… I hope this helps 🙂
