    The simple answer is education. Jews have always been the 'people of the book' - education was always a subject of primary importance. Thus, a Jewish child is more likely to be urged to succeed in school, to take extracurricular activities, to get scholarships, and to view education as the way to success. There are poor Jews; but most don't stay poor for very long, because of this mindset.
