The United States is still a predominantly white country. White racism is therefore much more publicized than counterracism, because it does harm on a much larger scale than racism harbored by other races. I do not know what ethnic group the people who perpetrated the hate crime against you belonged to, but I have been the victim of racism more often from non-whites than whites. I realize this does not mean whites are less racist. The truth is they might be just as racist, or even more so, but because there is so much emphasis on suppressing white racism nowadays, they might only be racist inwardly. Blacks, on the other hand, are a lot more open about it. They tend to be a lot more direct about racial relations and stereotyping, and when racism is involved, they are ruder. Thankfully, I have never been involved in anything too damaging, just annoyances that remind me that this is not my country. What this taught me was that being the target of racism does not teach one to not be a racist oneself. Instead it probably makes someone worse. People who are victims of prejudice might take all of their suffering and turn it against another group. Racism doesn't just cut 'both' ways. Races are more than just black and white. Racism cuts all ways. I'm glad you are a former racist. Please always remember that racists are not the majority, so don't let the few shape your opinion of things.

Music isn't just about 'Melody and Beauty', whatever the second means, since beauty is very subjective. Music is about pitch and rhythm. Rap music doesn't rely very much on pitch, but don't think there isn't pitch in rap. Oftentimes there portions of songs that are sung, or the rapper raps in different pitches. And there is almost always some kind of background music going on in a rap song. However, rhythm and rhyme are what rap is all about. Rap music is heavily rhythmic and that's why I think a lot of people like it. It's why I like it at least. The way the syllables and the sounds flow in a rap song... It's an experience you simply don't get with rock or classical or whatnot. Some people will even argue that music with lyrics, i.e. songs are not music. Pure music has no vocals, and should only be instrumental. You're really arguing the same kind of technical argument, saying that music has to be sung in the traditional manner. Rap is just pure rhythm extracted from traditional music. I didn't used to like rap. I didn't grow up with it at all, mostly listening to chinese pop when I was a kid. However I love rap now even though I find most of the lyrics in rap songs distasteful. I hope the trend in rap lyrics will change and rap songs can incorporate more of the human experience into their words than just violence, money and women. Anyhow I think the human taste for human is very malleable. Basically you will sooner or later like what you are exposed to. How else can music vary so much, from grand opera to rap to britney spears to dance music to the tribal music of primitives, with each genre having its own fair share of fans?

I hear a lot of white people talking about this. They're always saying how anime characters look like white people and not the Japanese. Well, when was the last time white people had eyes on their face that were 3 inches wide and 2 inches high? When was the last time white people had tiny noses (white people have HUGE noses compared to East Asians) about 1/2 inch long that even entirely disappear their faces display certain expressions? Or what about those tiny anime mouths? Asian people have much smaller (horizontally narrower) mouths than white people on average. When was the last time white people succeeded in styling their hair as spikey as the likes of some of our favorate DBZ characters or as random characters in really any anime you run across. When was the last time white people had green hair and purple irises? I could go on and on. Anime characters look like anime characters, not real people. They are animated PICTURES representing characters, but if they were supposed to look white then white aren't japanese comics drawn the same way as American superhero comic books are? Now those people look really Caucasian. If anything anime features represent a mixture of the features of many races. I'm sorry but there are plenty of dark skinned and dark haired characters in anime if you just cared to look. Anime characters reflect what japanese culture thinks is cute or even beautiful in people, especially girls. Large eyes denote innocence and youth (kids have proportionally bigger eyes). Same thing with shorter and rounder faces, characteristics usually NOT found in whites. Convention also very strongly affects how anime artists design characters. I am not sure of the exact origins of the anime look, but the look is well established so most anime artists follow it without thorough consideration about what race the characters might most resemble. Anime characters are not meant to look like real people, though some Japanese animations have very realistic looking characters that very strongly resemble asians. I do admit that some of white features are covetted by the Japanese, but do not be so self-absorbed to think all are. The perfect east asian beauty does not look white but a blend of asian and white features. I will admit that white cultural influences are very strong in Japan, but do not think that all Japanese want to look white.

It's the stereotypes and cultural brainwash. It tells them white men are the definition of masculinity. They suscribe to white beauty and begin to prefer white values and white culture more than the asian culture that asian men grow under. There is no similar stereotype for asian women. It's actually the opposite. White men are taught that asian women are sexy and exotic. Why the huge disparity between stereotypes of the sexes is beyond me. There's lots of theories and quite a bit of people griping about it, but it's not going to change any time soon. I think what we asian males should do is try to overcome those outdated and largely negative stereotypes and show people what we really are.

Black women are rude, whatever the reason. I'm basing this not on any recent encounters. I must say I do not encounter any rudeness from blacks anymore since frankly there really aren't too many blacks where I am. However, I remember when I noticed that blacks were rude when I didn't have any expectations. Back in middle school when I first came to this country (from China), black girls, and there were a lot of them in my school, were by far the rudest to me both in terms of my nationality and just in general. Now I have no idea why they would feel like being assertive to me at the time, being a middle school chinese kid who hardly knew any english, but I do realize that they were just kids. But their behavior stands out so much because the white kids just weren't like that. I know that it's a difference of culture or whatnot, but it definitely not a healthy culture. Asian cultures are all about respect, politeness, and having reserve, and blacks often simply don't have any respect. I hope this changes in the future, but realize that blacks do tend to have this attitude, and it's not just some sort of psychological self-fulfilling-prophecy. Being assertive is one thing. Even that can sometimes really offend people, especially when you're dealing with people of other cultures. However, being rude is just a negative thing no matter how much prejudice people think they might be dealing with. Can't we all agree that respect is a positive thing and that people all deserve it?

I am very glad that you do not understand or sympathize with those videos, and you raise a very good question. The answer, to me, is obvious. Porno attempts to gratify and virtually fulfill the fantasies of those that porn companies are targetting. Who are the targets of pornography? In America, mostly white men. Whatever white men fantasize about, or at least whatever porno companies think they are fantasizing about, porno companies try to deliver. Interracial porn is definitely degrading every single time, because it represents some of the basest exploitation of accumulated racial stereotypes and harmful racial myths by white america. The particular case of Asian porn reflects American society's and especially white men's views of asian women exactly. They are thought to be submissive, exotic sex objects, ready to be conquered by a strong dominant white male at any time. Nothing more. This image of asian women is deeply ingrained in american culture and in more widespread venues of the media (movies and TV). Asian women are not the only ones hurt by this image that is continously perpetuated in the media. Asian men also suffer. You were very observant in noting that Asian men are never in porn, not even with women of their own ethnicity. This is absurb, since in reality the vast, vast majority of asian women are in relationships with asian men. It is no accident, but reflects white america's stereotype of the asexual asian man. Asian women are somehow viewed as a race of oversexed women without men. Does this hurt people in real life? Do people have to do with situations in reality? You bet they do. Stereotypes hurt real people when people start believing them. Just ask any asian guy about the White Male - Asian Female to Asian Male - White Female ratio. When ignorant whites assume all asian women are submissive sex objects and start acting accordingly in front of them, that's why real people get hurt.

Voices are not completely based on genetics. Sometimes the cultural climate of a region or of an ethnic group will cause the people belonging to that group to speak either in high-pitched voices or low-pitched voices. Sometimes languages themselves can affect pitch. I have noticed that most Chinese people who speak Cantonese tend of have higher-pitched voices, no matter what region of China they were originally from. Also, I speak both Mandarin and English, and I notice that my voice tends to be deeper when I speak Mandarin. I guess my point is that you can not simply attribute deep or high-pitched voices to different ethnic groups, and especially not to huge, heterogeneous groups like races. It is a lot more complex than that.

The harsh and simple truth is that East Asians are racist, just like everyone else. It should hardly be surprising. Every ethnic group harbors racism of some kind. I think one reason why East Asians might seem more blatant about it is that they never had to deal with it so much in their own country. There was never asian-black slavery in China or the other East Asian countries, so there were never any strong movements against racism either. Asians just didn't have to deal with racism of the kind found in America, since their countries were so homogeneous, to the extent that there are very few whites and blacks in their countries. Also the preference for fair skin runs deep in Asia. I don't know if it's simply coincidental, or some sort of effect of white imperialism, but it's true, many asians think that white skin is desireable and attractive. It's just in our history and culture. I personally don't care, and a lot of my friends, who are young asian americans, are very liberal and open about it as well. I can not say the same for people of earlier generations though. It seems that by the Asian standard of beauty some white features, like long, sharp features, high narrow noses, and lighter complexions are just considered beautiful. Therefore, East Asian people discriminate against blacks based on their looks. I personally hope that it is only the old, conservative Asian people who do this. They have very little concept of racial relations and accepting people as individuals. Another thing is the clash between East Asian (confucian) ideals and values and black culture (as I see it). East Asians tend to hail education, intelligence, and reserve as the ultimate qualities people should strive for. The Chinese people that I know mostly think about gaining success and elevating socio-economic status through education and hard work. Therefore Asian people tend to care a lot (sometimes too much) about strict education and socioeconomic status. I do not mean to generalize, and I admit I do not have that much contact with black culture outside of a lot of what I see in the media, but it seems that a lot of black people are lacking in these two things. Therefore, Asian people don't respect blacks as a people. They think blacks and stupid or at least complacent and lazy.
