Johnny29355ParticipantMost of the Black teenage boys in my apartment building wear the long white t-shirts. I think it’s just an easy outfit to wear (i.e, goes with any pants or shorts) and it’s a little anti-commercial and affordable. Most of the fashions targeted at the Black community are extremely expensive (e.g. Sean John, FUBU, Ecko) and the white t-shirts are a trend that middle-class and lower-class parents can afford for their sons. I don’t think it’s much more complicated than that. It concerns me that the first reason some Whites would think about a Black fashion is that it’s gang-related.
