Believing that all gay men are effeminate is unsupported by facts. Not all gay men act like women, and I know quite a few straight men who are quite effeminate. I’m a gay man, and while it’s not something I try for, I generally pass as straight unless I say something to correct the assumption.

This gay male disagrees with you. (And I wasn’t aware that things like this were up for popular vote.) I never chose to be gay. I spent 15 years hating myself and praying to be changed. It was only when I came to accept myself that I finally found peace and love. Whether it was genetic or some other uncontrollable factor, the fact is that I did not choose it.

Much though I think it stupid, I have met some gay men, usually young and freshly out of the closet, who will act as though they can’t stand women. They’ll use all sorts of derogatory names and will exhibit extreme discomfort in the presense of women. To me it all seems forced, an act. It seems too much like grade school, and I’ve even heard the phrase ‘girl cooties’ used. It’s a real sign of immaturity in my book, no matter what age the participant. Personally, I love my women friends as much as my men friends. And in certain circumstances I much prefer the company of women (doctors, hairdressers, and some other professional services). I don’t know why, but for some things I’m much more comfortable talking with women than I would be with men. Thinking about it, I probably have an equal number of female friends as I do male friends.
