I was Wiccan for roughly 5 years and was part-time spokesman for a neopagan networking organization, was featured in magazines and even on the Sunday front page of a major newspaper.) I can speak from personal experience. Wicca is one of the most beautiful religions in the world, on the surface at least. Unlike some people's misconceptions, Wiccans do not overtly worship Satan; they worship nature and a god or gods. However, while it claims to take you to higher spiritual levels, it really does the opposite. While not all Wiccans practice witchcraft, the the vast majority do. And what is witchcraft's consistent aim? Money, power, luck, sex, love, protection, healing illness and sometimes to 'bind' others who you don't get along with. All of these are earthly concerns, materialistic issues, not great spiritual quests. The more time you spend in Wicca, the more you're likely to become increasingly self-centered, materialistic. The pagan community takes any chance it gets to slam Christianity regarding money-hungry evangelists. But few religions have so much to sell to you as Wicca! Candles, incense, feathers, potions, crystals, jewelry, tarot cards and other divination tools (can't have just one), special and expensive clothes, trips to various mystical locations, special music, amulets and talismans, and oh, the books are just endless. Can't have enough books. To practice Christianity, you need nothing more than one book which you can get for free just by asking. You cannot become an effective Wiccan/witch without a huge investment of money. The longer I was involved in Wicca, the more spiritual I thought I was. But my life spiralled into the gutter. One 'great' thing about Wicca is, it teaches subjective morality. Thus, you are allowed to do anything as long as you can make a rationalization that it's better than the alternatives. Before long, like me, you can rationalize yourself into having a 3-year affair with a married woman (or whoever), and THEN cheating on her with a friend who you just talked into becoming a stripper, all the while stealing, manipulating, lying to everyone to such an extent that several lives are literally nearly ruined. And of course, the pressure to use illegal substances is always present. Wicca is a beautiful religion... on the surface. Interested? Don't be. It will destroy you, sooner or later.

God loved us enough to create us with free will. Without that, our creation would have been pointless. It's somewhat like the metaphor of setting someone free and if they return, they're yours forever... I can program my screen saver to say, 'Praise Jim!' and bask in that all day. But does it mean anything? Of course not. It's just a programmed machine. God's love for us is great enough that he desires our love in return. But the only way that can be possible is if He allows us a choice. And because we have a choice, WE bring evil into the world. WE cause suffering for others and ourselves. Don't blame God. Blame me, blame everyone on Earth. We're the ones responsible for suffering, not Him.

I'm not Jewish. However, I would like to make an observation as a born-again Christian and street evangelist, for the benefit of anyone interested in the topic, *especially* anyone out there who denies the Holocaust. --- Anti-Semitism is blatantly unChristian and against the Bible. The Jews have always been and always will be God's chosen people. Even from the Christian perspective that they have been 'cut off' temporarily, the Bible still says they will return to God again, and they will be God's chosen people forever. ---- An additional observation once noted by Mark Twain is that every empire which has tried to destroy the Jews is no longer standing, from Babylon to Rome to the Third Reich. Yet, despite thousands of years of oppression, of powerful empires trying ot exterminate them, the Jewish people live on today, and will continue to do so. God bless the Jews. :o)

I agree with the other posts here which make the point that some people take some scripture out of context but that this doesn't make scripture itself wrong. People are fallible. Scripture is not. Don't blame God and His Word for the foolish mistakes of human beings. That said, God didn't 'create' homosexuality. Regardless of whether homosexuality is innate (or 'genetic') or a personal choice is irrelevant. God created man and woman and intended for *that* to be the only way for us to couple, as clearly indicated in Genesis and many other books of the Bible. If it's a personal choice, then God didn't 'create' homosexuality. If it's innate, it is only a result of mistakes in the genetic code. Some people are born with a predisposition for murderous violence. Does this mean murder is okay with God because he supposedly 'created' it? Of course not.

Some people believe that God resides in crucifixes, etc. Some simply believe His power resides in these objects, and that they thus carry some kind of abilities to protect and so forth. These beliefs are entirely pagan and not based in scripture at all. As a street evangelist, I once made this point by ripping a Bible in half. It is paper, crude matter, will rot someday. Does that mean God's Word will rot? Of course not. Because God's Word is abstract, not material. Crucifixes, amulets, St. Christopher medals, representations of Mary or the saints or other dead people carry no power or ability to accomplish anything. Putting your faith in these material things is a form of idol worship as clearly described in the Bible.

I was Wiccan for a number of years, and was spokesman for a major, world-wide pagan networking organization, so I can speak from personal observation. Blacks are extremely in the minority in Wicca and other neopagan religions. Although Wicca is beautiful on the surface, a great deal of racism exists in the pagan community. Some sects of modern paganism related to Wicca are even overtly racist, such as the Asatru/Odinists, who believe northern Europeans (blonde hair, blue eyes) are the superior race and that all others are 'sub-races.' Hitler based much of his personal belief system on Odinism.
