First the physical ability to have an erection is dependent on how high on the back the injury to the spinal cord is and cow complete the break in the cord is. Someone who breaks their back between the shoulder blades most likely cannot have an erection on their own but can with the use of viagra etc. Ejaculation is different. it is an automatic response and many men even though they cannot feel it will still ejaculate. It is a reaction to physical stimulation. However, SOME para or quadriplegics have what is called retrograde ejaculations and this means it goes into the bladder instead of out the tip of the penis. This is due to improper coordination of the muscle contractions in that area. Still others, do not ejaculate normally at all but most can be induced to through several different methods. Surgical extraction, electrostimulation (involving inserting a sort low level cattle prod for lack of a better term intto the rectum and stimulationg the muscles there.) the cattle prd analogy is not bad though as that is how the often collect sperm from unsuspecting bulls (no lie!). Finally what worked for me as a paraplegic was the least invasive (and most fun! Your partner gets to help!) method called vibro stimulation. you need a HIGh frequency vibrator (not found in stores- neeed to go through clinical avenues) and you stimulate certain areas in certain orders and it can cause a normal ejaculation. Hope this helps.

Vanessa, As an extremely independent wheelchair user, the best analogy I can think of is this: Say you just wrote a check to pay for something and you are filling out the checkbook register. The guy behind you in line sees you and says want help figuring out your new balance? See, he knows your a girl. Being a girl he figures you must struggle with math. So he is just being nice and offering you help!!!! OR would you be offended at that because he is acting based on a stereotype not fact. That stereotype implies you are incapable. And you have this happen EVERY DAY. MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY!! It gets to the point where yo feel everyone in the world thinks you couldn’t wipe your nose without help. The best advice is offer to help or even wait to be asked!!!!
