I understand that parapalegic men still have the ability to father children. Is this true, and if so, how?

Men's erections are hormonally driven, not neurologically. The hormones that produce the erection are located in the brain.

It can be done by means of artificial insemination. The man cannot actually have sexual intercourse, as he cannot have an erection. But semen can be extracted from the testes and used that way. Sorry if my answer seems crude, but this is the only way to say it.

It is possible to remove sperm either surgically or to induce an orgasm using an electric shock. Neither is pleasant, but being paraplegic, this doesn't really matter. Normal in vitro fertilization techniques can then be used to impregnate the woman.

Sometimes not all the organs are damaged. This is why some paraplegic men are also able to get an erect penis. With others who have had nerve and organ damage, they become sexually aroused by the touch in other body parts and are able to have an orgasm, such as by touching the neck and arms.

First the physical ability to have an erection is dependent on how high on the back the injury to the spinal cord is and cow complete the break in the cord is. Someone who breaks their back between the shoulder blades most likely cannot have an erection on their own but can with the use of viagra etc. Ejaculation is different. it is an automatic response and many men even though they cannot feel it will still ejaculate. It is a reaction to physical stimulation. However, SOME para or quadriplegics have what is called retrograde ejaculations and this means it goes into the bladder instead of out the tip of the penis. This is due to improper coordination of the muscle contractions in that area. Still others, do not ejaculate normally at all but most can be induced to through several different methods. Surgical extraction, electrostimulation (involving inserting a sort low level cattle prod for lack of a better term intto the rectum and stimulationg the muscles there.) the cattle prd analogy is not bad though as that is how the often collect sperm from unsuspecting bulls (no lie!). Finally what worked for me as a paraplegic was the least invasive (and most fun! Your partner gets to help!) method called vibro stimulation. you need a HIGh frequency vibrator (not found in stores- neeed to go through clinical avenues) and you stimulate certain areas in certain orders and it can cause a normal ejaculation. Hope this helps.

Although paraplegic men often have reduced sperm count from sitting as much as they do, and some have an injury that makes it difficult for them to get an erection, many can and do get erections and have orgasms. My boyfriend is paralyzed and cannot feel his penis, but it gets erect, he ejaculates, and he has orgasms. He just doesn't feel them the same as a non-paralyzed man. However, because he cannot move his lower body, sexual positions have to be a little more creative, but that just makes it more interesting.
