I think the issue is not about religion it is about the lack of tolerance. Man is like a pack/herd animal. We will try to isolate anyone who is diffrent to make a 'favored class' in animals this is for food and mates. In our world its for anything of value. We will isolate the majority so the minority can have what the majority does not have. Religion has just become one of many ways, to accomplish this.
