I myself am a nontheist (something akin to atheism). I don’t mind religious holidays or their associated greetings. Since I’m not religious, I personally take that as a license to celebrate ALL the holidays of all religions that I choose to. I may not agree with the beliefs, but if it’s in the spirit of togetherness and merriment, then I find no reason not to join in.

Assuming the people running the airlines know what they are doing, the reason they provide lower quality service for low prices, rather than higher quality service for high prices, is because they make more money doing that. You might be willing to put out more money so that you can have better service, but the case may be that the airlines are operating just below the point where many customers would stop being willing to pay for the service that they recieve, which is generally the best way to operate. There are two posibilities that come to my mind for being able to offer better services for reasonable prices: either the cost of operating has to go down, the best way of which would be much cheaper jet fuel, or the airlines would have to be regulated by the government. Government regulation is used to make normally profit driven industries operate at a less profitable level for the benefit of the tax payer and the economy. Airlines used to be a regulated industry, but their deregulation was one of the outcomes of ‘Reaganomics,’ the rather misguided economic strategy embraced by Ronald Reagan and likeminded leaders.

I cannot speak for everyone, but as a concerned individual who has know self mutilators, I can say that I have lended help to those I am close to. I believe the main issue is when an individual is faced with helping someone that they do not know that well. I’ve found that others, myself included, tend to be very hesitant to involve themselves in the buisness of others, especially when those others appear introverted or distraught. My suggestion is that, if you want help, don’t be afraid to ask. Other people do care, even if they don’t understand where your pain comes from.

Religion is even farther reaching than you know. Religion is not just the different denominations that worship Christ. Oh, no. There is so much more. It would take volumes to explain all the different religions. To name some others that have no connection to Christianity: Buddhism, Hinduism (the oldest known religion), Zorostrianism (i may have spelled that wrong), Paganism (which comes in many forms). And there are many more. A religion, most generally, is a body of knowledge and traditions that encompasses a particular view on the nature of the universe and mankind’s place in it. Many religions rely on faith in that which cannot be empirically proven to explain and reason different things about the universe and human nature. And all the answers in all the religions are different, although they share common themes. Why can’t we have just one, unified religion? Because people disagree on things! Many different people have many different concepts on spirituality, and that’s to say nothing of bodies of knowledge that rely only on the empirical (science) and faiths that reject entirelly the supernatural (atheism, nontheism, and so on). The world will never be united in one belief of Christ. Most religions don’t involve Christ at all.
