EmilyParticipantI was watching MTV’s ‘True Life – I’m Gay’ and one Mormon guy was so afraid of coming out and being excommunicated from everyone he knows that he underwent painful shock therapy that included having the current attached to his penis. If that isn’t a reason to ‘choose’ not to be gay, I don’t know what is. Just like you can’t help being attracted to a girl on the street with a nice figure and big boobs, a gay guy can’t help being attracted to another guy with a nice six pack and firm butt.

EmilyParticipantI think the answer basically boils down to this: no matter what race, age, religion, gender, sexuality or whatever, there are always stupid people. I am agnostic but grew up in a fervently Protestant household. I have problems with institutionalized religion, but that does not mean I will go around bad-mouthing other people’s beliefs or messing up their cars. What you experienced was discrimination from ignorant boys who had nothing better to do with their time.

EmilyParticipantI was in exactly your shoes at your age. I was raised in Protestantism and when I started asking questions and realized that Christianity didn’t answer them, I knew it wasn’t for me. It’s great that you’re asking questions, but it’s also a hard part of growing up. My parents knew that I didn’t share their beliefs, but were in denial and even when I flat out told them, they STILL denied it. They are well respected in their church but it still makes me feel guilty and sad because it reflects badly on them that their own daughter is not of their faith. But one thing parents have to understand is that they cannot control their children’s lives and you are eventually going to grow up and make your own decisions. This is a part of the process of becoming and adult and someday, your own children will make choices that you don’t agree with but eventually, all parents have to let go.
