This statement: ‘Sexual orientation and gender-specific behavior are inextricably linked.’ isn’t accurate to me based on my experience in the gay community. Just like any community, we have our differences and diversity in behavior. Gay people fall along a wide continuum of traits and behavior: butch woman vs. ‘lipstick lesbian’ and butch man vs. ‘nelly queen’. I can’t remember what show I heard this on but it’s appropriate–one character commented, ‘That’s the gayest straight man I’ve ever met.’ But it’s saying the same thing–everyone has a range of traits that has nothing to do with their sexual orientation. There are married women who I could swear are lesbians but they’re not. And macho men that I would swear are straight but no, they love men. I guess the point is to just let people be who they are.

I used to hate anal sex–giving it, getting it. Since I met my partner, I have discovered that I like to receive it. I think the reason I never liked it before was a control issue–I literally and figuratively couldn’t ‘open up’ to a man fully. Now, with my partner, it is an out of body experience for me. Physically, I believe the prostate in the man is the equivalent to a women’s clitoris. Stimulation of it puts me on another planet. But the intensity has to be more emotional and spiritual–having a true and deep connection to the person you love most in the world. (it’s not about anal sex, but I had the same experience with oral sex–hated to do it, but now I love it. Needless to say, you can imagine that I wasn’t a very popular gay man).
