40 years ago, I dropped out of the Lutheran church my wife and children and I belonged to because of the prejudice against ‘others’, Catholics, Jews, etc. which I interpreted as lack of morality. I decided that, if religion had a place in the world at all, it should be to further morality – tolerance, acceptance or love of those different than we. My research turned up one such religion, I thought. At that time it was Unitarianism. After a merger in the 60s, it is now Unitarian Universalism, UUism. As we moved around the country, we have been in and out of UUism. I’m now back in with both feet as president of a Florida congregation.
