I think it is terrible the way American society puts an emphasis on looking a certain way. Rather than being taught that being beautiful is important, we should be taught to love and accept who we are as a person. We should be taught to be ourselves, to be unique. That fundamental idea is what our society lacks. Yes, we should embrace the overweight population, but we should also embrace people who are thin, average, tall, short, etc. Furthermore, how we look should not be the emphasis. Some people are naturally tall and thin. Being a female who is 6’1″ and weighs 135 pounds, I am one of them. Does that mean I should not be embraced because of how I look? I hope not. Put the emphasis on the person, not their body.
