Just out of interest, how mwny Nobel prizes do you have, Maerlyn? Not white guys, not Jewish guys, you personally? You come across like ‘Dan the illogical scientist’ from Dillbert’ I’m smarter than you because scientists have discovered many great things.’ Dillbert’s reply, ‘Those were other scientists, not you!’ Racial ‘pride’ is always a bit odd. I’m a white Englishman, like Shakespeare and Newton, and I take some happiness in the knowledge that I’m from a rich and well-developed culture, but I can’t very well knock other people and ask, ‘Did you write Hamlet? Did you derive the Law of Gravity? Hah! Thought not!’ Those were other white Englishmen, not me! For myself I have no problem with black people boosting fellow blacks, those who face negative stereotyping can benefit from some positive role models and self-esteem. I agree that some black people are over sensitive and think any white person who asks an honest question is being defensive and is ‘threatened’ by successful blacks, but I’ve known people from many backgrounds who are like that. You can’t say ‘Jewish’ in front of some Jews without their hackles rising.

I think that before equating Mohammad’s religion with evil you should look at biblical religion a litle harder. In the first place the old testiment is full of massacres of defenceless civilians, heathen yes, but men women and children whose main crime was being between he chosen people and their promised land (see the book of Joshua among much else). The god of the bible was capable of accepting human sacrifice (Judges11 v 29-39), ordering genocide and striking down his own worshippers in a fit of pique(Exodus 23 v10, Leviticus 9). Apart from suicide in a ‘good cause’ there’s no horror that Allah could condone that Yawheh couldn’t. He is after all ‘a man of war’ (Exodus 15 v3).These are you see taken from ‘The original sources’, not ‘aberrant individuals’. It was the bloodiness of these old myths of god that really turned me of all religions, not just extremist Islam. As to Salman Rushdie, if you’d bothered to read his book, you would see that the Satanic Verses were particular verses allowing idols of one of the old Arab goddesses to be retained in Mecca. Mohammed changed his mind on this one and had these verses removed from the Quran saying he had been misled by Satan when he wrote them. Anyway, enough waffle. Suffice to say that there is enough evil in the Good Book to call it as Satanic a book as the Quran (some Christian sects think the OT god was Satan, by the way) and Rushdie’s novel didn’t mean what you guessed it did.
