The roots of many Jews in North America go back to the great wave of immigration from South and East Europe in the early 20th century. It’s likely that members of the Jewish community you have in mind have been here for three or four generations. They have been able to settle, open businesses, make money, own real estate and organize on many levels. As for celebrities and other notable individuals, I’m sure plenty of them are non-Jewish.

Because to some people it seems like a made-up story. Although we may never find out for certain how the universe came about, it is insufficient to retire to such a basic explanation as ‘a creator brought all of this about.’ Every day, scientists find new evidence and clues about how the universe works. As for the concept of a loving God, it is not clear who God loves, and how do we know that he/she does? There is also the issue of which God we are talking about. People around the world bow before a wide variety of Gods. Is there still just one God? Do some of these people mistakenly praise a false God and the others the true God? And if this God is loving, why have hundreds of thousands of people died in wars and other conflicts that were caused by differing opinions of God and religion?

Your girlfriend may be talking about the things she did with her old boyfriends because she enjoyed them and maybe the two of you don’t do these things enough. She may be trying to let you know about what she likes or wants to do. If that is the case, she may even feel you are not attentive enough because you ‘don’t seem to get what she is trying to tell you.’ I think that if you want your relationship to work out, you should talk to her about this. Let her know that it bothers you. Stress to her that you care about her and that you want your relationship to work. Although it is difficult to address an issue like this, I’m sure both of you will feel better after you talk about this and find out how each feels.

I hope your experiences don’t make you assume all women are like that. It all depends on the individual, their experiences and their motivations. Also, pressure to ‘appropriately’ present oneself in front of others often gets in the way of what people actually feel and think and want to say. More importantly, why would you want a woman who apparently doesn’t want a ‘nice guy’ like you? If she can’t appreciate you for who you are, it’s most probably her loss. Forget about her and direct your efforts toward looking for a woman who will understand you and appreciate you for who you are – for whom you would not have to change. I know it is so much easier said than done, but I took my own advice some time ago. Those countless lonely weeks and months were much more than worth the wonderful person I eventually met. Decide what kind of a person you would like to be with and don’t let her go once you meet her.
