A.C.C.MemberAndrew, calling this “ritual killing” is sensationalist and shows a complete ignorance of the spiritual belief of Indians. This was not killing an animal for the sake of a ceremony and certainly not for cheap thrills, as you imply. The hunting was solely for food. Unlike what the majority of whites do, for native peoples, hunting is a livelihood, a means of support as essential as farming. The ceremony happens afterword. The spirit of the animal is asked to forgive the hunters. This is a ceremony to restore harmony, not celebrate bloodlust. To call this cruel or needless is also hypocritical of you and others, unless you are vegetarians, when it is less cruel than how hamburger is made. For a good guide to understanding the native point of view on spirituality, read God Is Red by Vine Deloria. A.C.C.MemberIt may be different depending on the part of the country, but PC people are rare in the South. PC is very overrated as a “menace.” There have probably been more articles written denouncing it than there are people who have ever taken the label. Much of the denunciations seem aimed at discrediting their noble goals of ending racism, sexism and hatred of gays. PC is an insignificant molehill compared to the Mt. Everest of various hatreds still in the United States.

A.C.C.MemberI see two reasons: 1) Many of those people are hypocrites, obviously. One out of three women and two out of three men like to look at pornography/erotic material. But American culture is schizophrenic about sex, both fascinated by it and ashamed of it at the same time. So many people pull a Jimmy Swaggart, complaining about “sin” in public while indulging in it privately. 2) Language. People, especially many feminists, confuse gender discrimination with sexuality.
