Tom W.MemberDo gay people enjoy looking at their bodies in the mirror?

Ben S.MemberI’m sure some people out there are attracted to themselves, but it’s probably more of a fetish than a mainstream interest, even for gay men. I have found, though, that quite a few gay men are more interested in the maintenance and appearance of themselves, not because of self -attraction but because we know what type of body and looks we are interested in and try to become our ideal person. I find that rings true even for myself. If I find myself attractive, I tend to be more confident around other people who are attractive. Thus, what looks like a sexual attraction for myself is basically pride in my own body while trying to attract sex from someone else. After all, I can touch myself whenever I want, but I don’t have that kind of access to someone else’s body.

Karen A.MemberNot particularly – at least, I don’t. It’s just my body, you know?

Mike-EMemberI don’t think anyone truly gets excited seeing themselves naked. I don’t, and even my incredibly self-absorbed, arrogant friends don’t. It is a big reason, though, why homosexuals, especially gay men, tend to put more time and effort (and money) into their looks. When you think about it, it is quite narcissistic to be attracted to your equal.

JPMemberGood question, but the answer is NO! As turned-on as I will get by seeing another attractive female naked, I have never been turned on by seeing myself in the buff.

BuddyMemberI’ve also heard that male bodybuilders are inclined to feel better about themselves and their bodies when they’re looking in the mirror.

Sydney SteinMemberI’m not at all attracted to myself in the mirror. I like guys with a full head of hair and no/little body hair and clean-shaved. I like guys who are slim & trim & well-toned. I like guys with blue or green eyes, and with light brown or blonde hair. In other words, guys whose looks are the exact OPPOSITE of EVERYTHING I see in the mirror.

Tom24139MemberI don’t, never have, and I haven’t heard of anyone else who does, although I suppose there must be some who do, the variety of human nature being what it is. I sometimes think, ‘you still look good’ when I get out of the shower, but that’s not attraction, just a (realistic?) appraisal.

AndyMemberHa. To be honest no I don’t turn myself on when I see myself in the mirror. But then again I don’t sit there and just pose, either. I mean don’t get me wrong, from what I hear I’m pretty attractive, but no.

HerbMemberI don’t. Of course, I don’t have body beautiful, and probably wouldn’t get excited if I were in great shape. But if someone likes the way their body looks in the mirror, go for it..straight or gay!

JeffMemberI don’t think so – I can’t speak on behalf of lesbians, but I think most gay men, like me, would use ‘naked-time’ in front of the mirror to notice any visible flaws, or the parts of the body that could use some work (surgical, OR work-out).) I do think it’s true that a lot of gay men tend to take a strong interest in looking good, and continuing to look good as they age, but then again, so do a lot of straight men. There are always extremes though, so I’m sure it wouldn’t be painfully hard to find someone who is turned on by looking at his/her own body in a mirror – perhaps they’re stimulated by what they’ve achieved through exercise or diet. That same exception might explain why some people hang mirrors over their beds (regardless of gay or straight)?

LynneMemberI take it this question is based on the idea that as long as it has the right equipment, it must be exciting to look at. The answer is no.

Jay31110MemberMy answer would be yes. I can get very turned on by myself. I like my body, I love my average to large tool. If you can’t play with yourself, who can you play with?

Robert-BMemberI don’t think the average homosexual would get any more excited by that image than, say, Tom Cruise, a heterosexual, would. Tom W. may be confusing homosexuality with narcissism. Perhaps he should expand his horizons. He doesn’t seem to have learned very much about human nature or human sexuality in his 68 years.
