Tom W.MemberDo gay people enjoy looking at their bodies in the mirror?

Ben S.ParticipantI’m sure some people out there are attracted to themselves, but it’s probably more of a fetish than a mainstream interest, even for gay men. I have found, though, that quite a few gay men are more interested in the maintenance and appearance of themselves, not because of self -attraction but because we know what type of body and looks we are interested in and try to become our ideal person. I find that rings true even for myself. If I find myself attractive, I tend to be more confident around other people who are attractive. Thus, what looks like a sexual attraction for myself is basically pride in my own body while trying to attract sex from someone else. After all, I can touch myself whenever I want, but I don’t have that kind of access to someone else’s body.

Mike-EParticipantI don’t think anyone truly gets excited seeing themselves naked. I don’t, and even my incredibly self-absorbed, arrogant friends don’t. It is a big reason, though, why homosexuals, especially gay men, tend to put more time and effort (and money) into their looks. When you think about it, it is quite narcissistic to be attracted to your equal.

BuddyParticipantI’ve also heard that male bodybuilders are inclined to feel better about themselves and their bodies when they’re looking in the mirror.

Karen A.MemberNot particularly – at least, I don’t. It’s just my body, you know?

JPParticipantGood question, but the answer is NO! As turned-on as I will get by seeing another attractive female naked, I have never been turned on by seeing myself in the buff.

Sydney SteinParticipantI’m not at all attracted to myself in the mirror. I like guys with a full head of hair and no/little body hair and clean-shaved. I like guys who are slim & trim & well-toned. I like guys with blue or green eyes, and with light brown or blonde hair. In other words, guys whose looks are the exact OPPOSITE of EVERYTHING I see in the mirror.

HerbMemberI don’t. Of course, I don’t have body beautiful, and probably wouldn’t get excited if I were in great shape. But if someone likes the way their body looks in the mirror, go for it..straight or gay!

Tom24139ParticipantI don’t, never have, and I haven’t heard of anyone else who does, although I suppose there must be some who do, the variety of human nature being what it is. I sometimes think, ‘you still look good’ when I get out of the shower, but that’s not attraction, just a (realistic?) appraisal.

AndyParticipantHa. To be honest no I don’t turn myself on when I see myself in the mirror. But then again I don’t sit there and just pose, either. I mean don’t get me wrong, from what I hear I’m pretty attractive, but no.

Jay31110ParticipantMy answer would be yes. I can get very turned on by myself. I like my body, I love my average to large tool. If you can’t play with yourself, who can you play with?

Robert-BParticipantI don’t think the average homosexual would get any more excited by that image than, say, Tom Cruise, a heterosexual, would. Tom W. may be confusing homosexuality with narcissism. Perhaps he should expand his horizons. He doesn’t seem to have learned very much about human nature or human sexuality in his 68 years.

MarkParticipantIt’s not common, but not unheard of, either. In 25 years of being out, I have run across a number of bodybuilders who definitely were turned on by the man in the mirror. I’ve even met a couple of guys who never took their eyes off themselves! So, yes, some guys, especially those with great bodies, get off on themselves. But for us average mortals, sex without mirrors is just fine.
