To respond to your ‘dont worry about what we name ourselves…’ and so forth, maybe we will be able to when you start to see yourselves as Americans FIRST and black second. People who’s ancestry is rich with innovation and creativity, whose ‘brethren’ have made countless advances in physics, mathematics, medicine, chemistry, art, literature, music, etc do not ceaselessly tout their ‘Italian-ness’ or ‘English-ness’ or what have you. When YOU stop making such a loud, repetitious, boring show of all things black, then maybe whites will pay less attention to it. When YOU invent a vaccine or an engine or a new computer processor, then maybe you’ll have a RIGHT to crow about black this and black that. Can you name some black philosophers, ones whose sole preoccupation was NOT about civil rights, but who came up with original ideas about the nature of existence? Where are the black Nobel Prize-worthy chemists, biologists, physicists, mathematicians, computer programmers, etc.? What are you celebrating? I do not like to see anyone mistreated becasue of their race, but quit insulting BOTH of our intelligences by yammering on andon about your supposed ‘cultural heritage’. Tell me this; why is it that just about every person deified during black history month and other such times was a civil rights activists? WHERE ARE THE BLACK MEN AND WOMEN OF GENIUS???? Thought so.
