Are there strip clubs just for lesbians?

I enjoy going to strip clubs with my husband. Not only does it turn my husband on, but I really enjoy getting a table dance from a sexy, gorgeous woman. I am wondering if lesbians and bisexual women go to strip clubs. If so, do you go to ‘gentleman’s clubs,’ or are there strip clubs specifically for lesbians that I’m not aware of? Or is the whole idea of stripping and dancing for money offensive to lesbians?

I am a lesbian and have been to a strip club maybe twice with a group of friends. To me, it was just as much of a turn on, as it was a turn off. My lesbian friends have a variety of opinions on stripclubs. Some love them, some are deeply offended by them. I think that among the lesbian population, you’ll find just as wide a variety of opinions on the subject as you will among straight women. I have also met a couple of women who strip for a living and they have commented that they do enjoy it when women come into the club – women are much more sensual, less aggressive and offensive, and a nice change of pace from the men. I don’t know of any strip clubs that are specifically for women. Sometimes lesbian bars will hire a woman dancer to come into their bar for a ‘show’. Those that are interested watch/participate; those that aren’t shoot pool.

I wish there were lesbian strip clubs. That would be an ideal environment. We have to settle for “gentleman’s clubs.” And I find the old men creepy.

I’ve been to gentleman’s clubs before. I found it more fun than arousing. Yes, there are some gay women who are highly offended by the objectification of women for money, but I think it is more a feminist issue than a gay/straight one.

I know a lot of lesbians who find it offensive, but I also know a lot who find it plain old hot! We’re not all crazy feminists.

There are strip clubs that cater to lesbians (you might remember Ben Affleck “accidently” went to one in Canada).

Many strip clubs don’t permit women customers in. It’d be like letting a Lexus salesman hang out in a Mercedes dealership.

I danced in strip, or ‘gentleman’s clubs,’ for four years. While I do not know of any lesbian specific clubs in my city I know that some exist in other cities. Yes bisexual and lesbians go to the clubs. As a matter of fact I have worked at clubs that cater to women on certain nights of the week. Also guys I am sorry to say it is true that a lot of dancers are lesbians or at least bisexual themselves. I guess that they are like any other group of people, some find it offensive and some don’t.

From the Dare to Ask column:

Marketing sex to women, gay or not, can be, well, a little complicated.

Take pornographic magazines geared toward lesbians. It can be difficult to make a go of it when a large chunk of your demographic finds the very idea repugnant, the editor-in-chief of On Our Backs told us a few years ago. The magazine has since folded.

Erotic dancing is no different. A segment of the lesbian community condemns it, says Lillian Faderman, a Fresno State historian, lesbian and former stripper (we hit the trifecta with that one).

“Lesbian strip clubs have come and gone since the ’80s,” said Faderman, author of the acclaimed “Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers” (Penguin). “One person I interviewed who opened one said lesbians are shy about participating in something like that that is so open, and publicly sexual.”
