i think the prime indicator of attitudes to females is the widespread practice of female genital mutilation (excision of labia and clitoris) in moslem socities. with arranged marriages, it can be seen that women are to have no choice, and certainly, no pleasure, that is reserved for the men. numbers? last time i heard in the millions per annum.

1) No. Human nature is the same all over the world. 2) Walking the streets of glasgow, as i do, the only people who wear kilts are canadian tourists, who are laughed at behind their backs. Or the posers who come here for the (international) pipe band contests. 3)The politics of seperatism/independence is too vast a subject, and fraught, especially in light of european issues. I think it is definetly INCITED by vested interest groups who want to explain away their failings of responsibility upon outsiders, the mythical English. There is precious little identifying with tartans/clans. Not least because when tartan was de rigeur, it signified your feudal rank, the landowner you served, in an utterly undemocratic feudal society (property and land ownership only available to a very few aristocrats, all others being serfs). Society then was also Catholic, the Reformation changed things big time. etc., etc.. Romantic huh???
