TracieParticipantI don’t think it’s an issue of the celebration of achievements of black people. I think it’s that it is so socially acceptable that black people can be proud and make fun of white people on TV and white people cannot do such a thing without causing some sort of riot. If your child makes the Honor Roll, by all means, celebrate that child’s achievements. Halle Berry and Denzel are wonderful actors. I probably wouldn’t have survived my childhood if it weren’t for the invention of the peanut butter sandwich (if you don’t understand that, do some research). I would never hold another person as a slave regardless of color. When a person deserves my respect, I give it. There are plenty of white people I don’t respect and plenty of black people I do. My mentor in high school was a black lady. What I am saying is that why does it always end up a race thing? I think it is not the white people who have to get over it, it’s the black people who should get over it. Slavery is gone. Don’t think we owe you something because of what people did over 100 years ago. Newsflash: we had no control over that. As far as the ‘African American’ thing goes, I don’t call myself an ‘Irish-English-Native American’. I am American. That’s it. Just plain American. I happen to be white. Unless you were actually born in Africa, you are American. That’s it. Just plain American. You happen to be black.
