I wondered the same, but then I realized how powerful the brain is. Hate, indoctrination and labeling the tortured as “inhuman” means that the perpetrators of violence do not have to “live with themselves afterward.” The world is glad to be rid of these non-humans. It’s tragic. All we can do is treat (and demonstrate to) our children coherent ethical values.
