T27544ParticipantI’m an African-American female who lives in Minneapolis, my take on being a single female is that for the average male that lives here, blonde White women are the most desired for dating and/or marriage. Followed by White women (no matter what hair color), Asian & Hispanic women. African-American females seem to be on the bottom of the list as far as what is physically desirable here. Peruse any personals ad (just as a guage), walk into any bar or restaurant, heck even take a walk in Downtown Minneapolis or the Mall of America & you will see White men with either a White, Asian or Hispanic female. It’s very rare to see a White male with an African-American female here especially considering that are a lot of African-American male/White female relationships, so it’s not like interracial relationships are unusual here. I’m not sure if we’re just not considered attractive by White males or if they are afraid of what family/friends/neighbors would think. If it’s the latter, I really don’t understand because White females here date across the race line & it’s no big deal. My ex-husband is White & we have a bi-racial child. When my child reached school age, her friends were floored that I was African-American. Minneapolis has a large percentage of bi-racial children & the ‘norm’ here is that the mother is White & the father is African-American not the other way around. You know when 1st & 2nd grade kids find a peer with an African-American mother & White father ‘different’ but the other way around ‘normal’, that is a clear message about African-American female/White male relationships here in the great white north. I’ve dated African-American males & a few White males here, but for the most part White males in Minneapolis do not seems as interested and/or open to dating African-American females. K stated that he doesn’t often meet African-American females. Unless he is livng under a rock, there are plenty of us here. His White female counterparts have no problem finding African-American males and the ratio of African-American males to African-American females is about 50-50 (perhaps 40-60). Yes, Minneapolis is a majority White people in general but it not that big in terms of a metropolis either & is quite intergrated. If K is indeed attracted to African-American women, then he is truly the exception to the rule here.
