Maybe you’ve had an unusual run of meeting grumps. Have you traveled in the South? I’d say welcome! I think you’d see a different atttitude in less populated areas. I was taking a seminar on a large college campus in Pennsylvania and was surprised to see the difference in the demeanor of folks there. The students seemed unhappy and kind of hostile. I thought it might be the winter weather, rainy, cloudy, cold. But perhaps, it’s the high-population centers in which people are more wary of strangers and may be stressed and self-absorbed because of high-pressure job environments.
