Polynesians did not come from Africa. The original Polynesians, the Lapita people, (named after Lapita pottery found in a trail leading from south east Asia to Polynesian islands)travelled by boat from island to island, starting in South East Asia and working their way through Melanesia and on to Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. Groups of people would go out on boats looking for land and that is why some people believe Polynesians are so big. Only the big and strong could survive that long and tough of a journey. From Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, they went to New Zealand and Hawai’i. Some people think Polynesians travelled to South America while looking for land and brought back with them sweet potatoes because sweet potatos are not a native fruit among the Polynesian islands.
