SionParticipantWhen you think about it, the word itself is used differently among urban folk. Blacks say ‘Nigga’ and some who use the word to offend or oppress say ‘Nigger’. Needless to say in 2002 we should do away with the word all together. And for the record being a ‘nigga’ is a state of mind not a state of being. I know some non-blacks who personify what most consider qualities of an ‘N’.

SionParticipantI did forget to mention that as far as dumping in poorer white areas, I don’t see too much of that, but I do see five or six broken-down, rusty cars in the yard. Typically, it’s every race depending on the region. I still would like to know why poorer areas, merchants and residents clean their property less.

SionParticipantBlack people as a whole are not afraid of water. If you can’t swim, then yes, stay away from it. If the children were girls, maybe the reason would be that many black women don’t have wash-and-go hair (water can ruin processes done to straighten the hair). Maybe logic is different down South – hence my reason for never wanting to visit.

SionParticipantI understand your contentions about the ‘Hip-Hop’ style and wanting to defend it. I take umbrage to the fact that you would assume I meant the hip-hop style as a whole being sloppy. You mentioned Russell Simmons and Puffy to name a few who have capitalize off of not only a fad but a new found culture. Have you noticed haw neat they wear their hip-hop clothes and wealth is not synonymous with neatness. I have seen conservative Phat Farm sweaters that my man can wear, but while he’s ‘Sporting Gear’ his hair is neat, he’s not chewing on a straw and by god you will not see his ashy ankles and underwear! I let you live, but don’t come to my office looking a certain way expecting me to take you serious when you say you want a summer job. You sound very educated and I’m quite sure unless YOU are a pioneer like puffy or Russell, your pants will be around your waste, your shoes will be shined and you hair will be combed when you apply for that job. If every young man who is financially able doesn’t own a pair of concervative pants (that fit) and a nice sweater or shirt, that’s a problem. Looking good to everyone makes you feel good and you can’t deny that.

SionParticipantI am African American and one of my closest friends is a Caucasian woman who comes from a wealthy family and is married to a wealthy man. Those are two things we don’t have in common. We never talk about race. I think if she were black or I were white, we still wouldn’t talk about it. We have so much in common that we never discuss our differences. We also learn from each other and take personal notes. I’ve learned more from our friendship about the real world than most of my same-race friendships. We even joke about things – like I’ll say, ‘I really need to tan.’ We both laugh.
