Sara28318Membermy girlfriend is indian. she moved here at age 11. when she came out to her family, they mentioned that they had suspected as much all along, and that homosexuality was a common theme amongst the gods and goddesses of their religion (hindu). there’s a deity called ardhanarishvara that is half male and half female. they told her that gay people were accepted in india until muslim and british people took over and changed peoples’ attitudes. her mother had looked in to the subject because she had a feeling that her daughter was gay. i’m not hindu, so there’s a lot i don’t know. i’ve talked about this subject with my girlfriend and her mom a lot. what i find is that people automatically assume that because they are indian, her parents are homophobic. i try to explain otherwise, cause i’m really close with her mother, and it isn’t true. i think it’s kind of prejudiced, so it makes me feel bad. anyway, i’ve never been to india, so i’m just telling about the personal experience i’ve had with it.
