This is a very good question. As a Muslim I believe and live by every thing in the Holy Quran and traditions of the last prophet. Anything in it I want to implement and strengthen in my life anything not in in I want to discard. In my 10 years of studying this religion, I have seen no instance of the prophet Muhammad killing a innocent man, woman or child. Nevertheless the prophet fought to defend Islam and I believe that Muslims have the right to defend themselves in the manner that the prophet did.

Muslim men are allowed to marry devout Christian or Jewish women, but the children must be raised Muslim. Muslim women are forbidden to marry outside their religion.

I have seen statistics that say about 10% of all converts are White. The next biggest group of converts is either African-Americans or Hispanics. My White sisters have come to this religion like my other sisters. By family members, husbands, curiosity, soul searching or any of the other ways people have become Muslim.

Not all Middle Eastern women dress the same. Some are fully covered and some wear western dress. As a Muslim women, I gear my life according to the Holy Quran. A second source of guidance is the Hadith, or sayings and practices of Prophet Muhammad. There are numerous instances in these two sources that make it clear to me and many other women to cover completely, including our faces. I don’t feel as if it is a choice but rather a command from God.

I grew up in the Nation Of ‘Islam’. When I went to college I converted to Islam. The Nation is a Black Nationalistic group that mixes a variety of religions together. They promote self-help for Black people and bean pies are one of the items they sell. Bean pies are made of navy beans and all the other ingredients you probably put in a sweet potato pie. They are delicious, but I no longer eat them out of principal.
