The laws in the book of Exodus were written for the Isrealites (Jews) at that time. They needed to follow certain things to remain pure, and they needed to make sacrifices to be cleansed of sin. When Jesus died on the cross, he was the ultimate sacrifice for all sins, and the Jews were freed from many of the old laws, including sacrificing animals. Jesus said in Matthew 19:18 'Thou shalt not murder, THou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, THou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.' He also said He is the only way to God, and only through Him we can be saved NOT by following rules and regulations but only by the Grace of God. No one can get to heaven by being a good person. You must ask Jesus into your heart and ask for forgiveness of sin. He said if you acknowlege Him before men, He will acknowledge you to God. Its important to try to follow the Bible and to lead a good life, but nobody is perfect...we can only try our best. The ten commandments are very good rules to live by, our country wouldn't have so many freedoms and privileges if our founding fathers didn't believe in these Golden Rules.
