    I think there isn’t a single answer to this question any more than there is one answer to ‘Why are you a Christian.’ From my observations and experience, the more strongly a Christian holds the view that homosexuality is a sin, the more likely he or she is to be a black-and-white ‘fundamentalist’ thinker, oriented to external authority rather than internal authority. I suspect all of us pick and choose which parts of the Bible to emphasize in our efforts to live a faithful life. But fundamentalists seem less likely to examine their own choices, and thus to grow spiritually. And in spite of their honest efforts to live compassionate lives, as Jesus encouraged, I’d guess they carry extra-large burdens of unhealed (and, true to their orientation, unexamined) hurts.
