Well a few good answers Stromthurm – Jesse Helms – Trent Lott – David Duke – Ronald Regan Af-Amer initally voted Rep after reconstruction but due to the intregration of the Dem party and the movement of Dixiecrates(Helms – Stromthurm, etc..)to the republicans, the preference for the other occured. It was solidified with Barry Goldwater talking the rep party into moving for closer ties to the segrationist of the South.
