There are physical and psychological reasons why some men (straight and gay) enjoy anal stimulation or penetration. I distinguish between physical and psychological, since many straight men learn to enjoy having their prostrate gland stimulated either by the insertion of their female partner’s finger or a ‘sex toy’ (e.g., dildo), but would psychologically reject the insertion of another man’s penis to achieve the same result. For gay men, the enjoyment of being anally penetrated can involve not only enjoyment of the same physical stimulation of the prostate, but also be desirable from the standpoint of knowing he is giving pleasure to his partner, the same as any caring person desires to please their sexual partner, straight or gay. How can this be? Both heterosexuality and homosexuality are not identified by any particular behavior, but are an integral part of our psychological identities that one comes to be aware of, not chooses, as we mature. After all, one can know whether they are straight or gay long before they ever have a sexual experience with another human being. Therefore, it is my professional belief that a straight man can participate in what would commonly be called gay sex, but still truthfully be a heterosexual. One last thing: straight or gay, it often takes several experiences of being anally penetrated for a man to learn to enjoy it. A desire on the part of the receiving male, as well as patience and care by his partner, will usually lead to a very satisfying and stimulating addition to the physical enjoyment of sex.
