The US is the only country in the world where circumcision is carried out for non-religious reasons. The practice was introduced in the late 19th century and has variously been justified as a masturbation preventative, a VD preventative, a cleanliness issue, and a penile cancer preventative. Most non-Americans (unless circumcised for religious reasons) view it as a barbaric practice and would probably kill a doctor that mutilated their child’s sexual organ that way. Men who have been circumcised in their adult life live to regret the decision as it diminishes their sex life considerably as the sensitivity of the unprotected penis decreases.
