Straight from the horse's mouth: ask first. It is annoying and rude when people try to do things for me. It seems as if they think that just because I am disabled, I am in need of help. I have seen people ask for able-bodied people, so why not give the disabled person the same courtesy? Of course, if you and the disabled person are going in at the same time, hold the door open so your toes don't get rolled over.

there are many reasons for this. the major one being that society views a disability as a flaw; something that is unwanted or a weakness. so, this impresses upon a disabled person that they are a lesser member of the community of humanity; have less to contribute (if anything at all) and are worthless. nor does it help to live in an environment where there are constant barriers that send a clear message of 'you are unwanted and not even worth considering' in the way that buildings, cars etc are built. for others it is just the shock of living life one way and then having to learn how to live differently. i find most people get depressed when having to deal with such a change in their lives.

my old orthopedic surgeon used to stutter terribly. sometimes you could tell if he needed help with a word as the stuttering got worse, then it seemed fine to interject. also try not to think of it as 'wasting your time' just think of how you might feel if someone thought of that when talking with you.

scar zone and mederma are used for stretch marks and acne scars etc. laso things like shea butter can help. i, personally, have stretch marks on my breasts from growing too big, to fast. then i lost weight and was left with them.. they dont really bother me at all as they are just another part of my. use those marks as a reminder of what you have been through with your weight loss. once you reach your goal weight and have stayed there for at least a year and hanging skin/stretch marks are still a bother try considering surgery.
