Lucy22413MemberOf course women can hack it in the business world. Women can be as tough and as ruthless as they need to be to get the job done. Are all women like this? Of course not. But then all men aren’t cut out for the business world, either. I think that the aptitude a person has for a given career has much more to do with that person’s character, individual strengths and life goals than with gender. There are a couple reasons you see more men in high-powered positions in business. One is that society conditions men and boys to go after the highest rank, to be competitive. On the other hand, girls and women tend to be reared as more team players. Another factor is promotions. Most women eventually have kids, and are usually the primary caregivers in the family for the children. Many women take leaves of absences when their children are young or work fewer hours than their male counterparts. They don’t travel for business as often. As such, when it comes time for promotions, the person who has put in the most time usually gets it. This usually isn’t the person who has taken months or years off from the job.
