LizParticipantWhat I’ve learned is that the lost sheep of Israel is everybody. In the Old Testament, Israel was split into two halves. The top half consisted of 10 1/2 of the tribes of Israel, the bottom of the other 1 1/2. The top half disappeared sometime in the Middle Ages, probably by the Normands and others who invaded the area. These groups have never been heard from again. It is believed that they have been ‘scattered’ or that their blood is mixed with everyone else’s, and that everyone has a trace of the blood from the 12 tribes of Israel.

LizParticipantI don’t know a whole lot, I’m a pretty knew member to the church. What I do know is that they signify eternal covenants that they make in the temple. It is a deeply religious symbol of these covenants they make. Another thing I know is that they are not to be shown because of their sacredness, they are not to be paraded before the world. I have heard a comparison between the mormon garment and the clothing that clergy of other faiths wear. Since all members of the church are called to lead and teach at various times, all are considered clergy in a sense and wear the garment. The garment reminds them of their promises and duties. Only members who have been through the temple (usually only married or returned missionaries) wear the garment.
