LisaMemberI agree with you, my Sistah. I, too, dislike the wave caps and all the things you mentioned. For some strange reason, this has become acceptable among our men, and get this: Some women like it! I guess I’m from the old school, when men dressed in suits, and if they did dress down, they kept their pants up (no sagging). Shionedy, you said it best: ‘Shine like the diamonds you are.’

LisaMemberI can’t answer that, but I do know that it must really be attractive and appealing, because people are paying big bucks to have collagen injected to make their lips looks just as full and ‘huge’ as ours. Go figure!

LisaMemberI think the size of a woman and what a man sees as being acceptable has to do with your culture. White women are pictured as being small/skinny. Ads, newspapers, magazines and billboards of models and actresses all depict them as boney, and thus as the norm of what the perfect woman should look like. On the other hand, I am a woman of color and wear size 18 clothing, but I have no trouble with dating. Men of my culture prefer a ‘healthy’ woman vs. skin and bones. Also, women of color are not stuck on that stereotype that we have to be small to be validated as women. To sum it up, it’s a culture thang!

LisaMemberI, too, have wondered why, and it goes much further than just tanning of the skin. Blacks were made fun of in cartoons and comic strips because of our full (big) lips. Now, whites are having collagen injected in their lips for fullness. I have seen whites with dredlocks, corn rows and braids in their hair. Our urban culture, i.e., style of dress, dance, and speech is being copied. Strange.
