My wife was harrased in the same way when she was a girl living on the lower east side of Manhattan in New York City back in the late ’50s early ’60s. She was all of 10 years old and she said that this was something she had to endure every day when she walked back and forth to school. She hated it and to this day has a low opinion of these types. It’s a shame it is being defended in this thread.
