KerryMemberThe reverse is true. I am “technically” Caucasian, but due to my Italian heritage I am very dark (I am also part Irish, Russian and Ukraine). I am often mistaken for Hispanic, American Indian or part African American. I grew up in a predominantly Irish area, so I have been discriminated against because of my dark skin, hair and eyes. I don’t think the hate and stereotypes presented in racism are limited to only those outside one’s own race. It seems to be just as strong within ethnic groups.

KerryMemberI believe most teenagers are concerned about their physical appearance more then adults. Even the ones who are “grunge” try hard to look like they don’t care how they dress. It’s part of the insecurities of being a teenager. In my experience, part of the Italian culture is to be dramatic and flamboyant. Therefore, the teenagers may appear more concerned than they are about their appearance – it is just more noticeable.

KerryMemberThe hostility showed to you was wrong. It may be understandable, but still wrong. No one should assume anything about another human being. I believe it should be taken personally. We have to stop racism in all forms! The customer assumed that Larry was a racist and is that any better then if Larry assumed the customer was poor because they were African American. Again, I state the hostility is understandable, but that does not make it right. If I was robbed and beaten by a Hispanic Man and then hated all Hispanic Men, would I be right?
