My parents grew up poor but were very frugal and had great careers. They waited until later in life to have children. We were wealthy but my parents were frugal and bought almost all of their luxury cars used (about 2 yrs old) but with cash. My parents never borrowed money in their lives except for their mortgages. We lived in a small town and we caught a lot of hell from others in high school. ‘Where’s Jeeves?’ and ‘why don’t you get your butler to do that?’ were commonly heard. I didn’t know how to pump gas into my car until I was 18 and leaving for college and my dad made me learn. We always just went to the full service place where my dad had an account. I also didn’t eat at a McDonald’s until I was about 14 and my friend’s parents took us. We always ate at very nice restaurants, even when traveling, and we were always allowed to order whatever we wanted. My favorite was a big bowl of crab meat in a bowl for breakfast! The waiter would look at my dad and he would tell him to bring it and to make sure there were no shells in it!
